What Leicester actually makes
Leicester made this country's socks, jumpers and shoes for the better part of two centuries, and it still makes clothes. Next runs its head office out of Enderby on the south-west edge. Boden and Pantherella are here too.
Belgrave Road, the Golden Mile, is a long run of South Asian restaurants, sweet shops, sari retailers and jewellers, and most of them are independent. At the 2021 census no single ethnic group in Leicester formed a majority, and 41% of residents were born outside the UK. That shows up in the shops. RR Web Design is out at Lutterworth. Doesn't make either of them bad. It does mean the word "local" is doing some heavy lifting in those adverts.
